Digital X-Rays for Children: A Safer and Smarter Approach

Dental X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool that allows pediatric dentists to see what’s happening beneath the surface of your child’s teeth. They help with detecting cavities and tooth decay in their early stages, assessing the development of permanent teeth, and identifying any issues with the tooth roots, jawbone, or bite alignment.

In the Past:

Dentists relied on X-rays to uncover what the naked eye couldn’t discern. Traditional X-rays involved a complex process, from development in a darkroom with hazardous chemicals to viewing on a specialized light board.

Storing these developed X-rays required vast filing systems. But perhaps the most concerning aspect was the radiation exposure patients endured. Thankfully, digital radiography has revolutionized this entire procedure.

Today:

When you visit the dental office for X-rays, a tiny sensor is gently placed in your mouth to emit a minimal amount of radiation – up to 90% less than what traditional X-rays demand.

This results in a highly detailed image of your internal oral structures, which can be immediately viewed on a chairside monitor. These digital images offer the same conveniences as other digitized images. They can be rotated, magnified, adjusted for contrast, and even color-coded for educational purposes.

Furthermore, the digital copies are efficiently stored in our computer files, ensuring their safety. Whether for insurance records, referrals, or patient education, digital X-rays can be replicated easily, inexpensively, and with pinpoint accuracy.

To The Parents:

Digital X-rays present a multitude of advantages compared to their traditional counterparts. They offer convenience, are environmentally friendly, serve as a fantastic tool for patient education, can be effortlessly transferred and replicated, and most importantly, prioritize the safety of our patients.
